Bike Info

CC:
550
Bike Description:
Almost bulletproof engine - thanks to roller bearing crank and mains that almost never wear out. Massively over-engineered means it will put up with a lot of abuse! Twin cam engine is easy to maintain properly though - now these bikes (the ones that are left!) are becoming a bit more elderly, they will appreciate a bit of tender care!! Most rebuilds will use pattern gaskets - beware the rubber cam chain tunnel seal - non-standard ones dont quite fit, and become trapped - and squashed - when you bolt down the cylinder head - this leads to an annoying oil leak between exhaust pipes 2 and 3. The GS550DB has a single front disc brake (although the fork legs have lugs on to accept a caliper on both). the GS550DC therefore has twin front discs. Rear brake on both bikes is a drum. Both models have wire wheels. Mine still has CB points and coils etc - its about to get uprated to Boyer Bransden electonic ignition.
